08/09/2014 President
PACE President Anne Brasseur has paid tribute to Jim Dobbin, a member of the British delegation to PACE, who passed away suddenly while on a visit to Poland as part of an Assembly delegation:
“I would like to express my sincere condolences on the loss of Mr Dobbin, who was highly committed to the work of the Parliamentary Assembly and was a strong believer in Europe. Jim was a particularly active supporter of the Council of Europe’s ONE in FIVE campaign to stop sexual violence against children.
As a member of the Assembly and, since 2014, Vice-Chairman of the Sub-Committee on the Europe Prize, Jim invested much effort in promoting this prize, which rewards local and regional authorities for their active promotion of the European ideal. A highly committed and experienced local politician, he helped to bring the local dimension to Assembly debates on topical European issues.
His expertise, as well as his open, frank and friendly approach, was greatly appreciated by Assembly members. He will be missed.”
