Anne Brasseur, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), has congratulated Jean-Claude Juncker and the members of the new European Commission on their election by the European Parliament on 22 October.
“Throughout his political career Mr Juncker has proved to be a committed and professional European leader, and I am confident that the Commission is in good hands,” she said.
“As a Luxembourger I am all the more proud to see my compatriot elected to such a high and responsible position”.
“The Council of Europe has an excellent experience of co-operation with Mr Juncker over many years. Our common challenges, within the 28 member States of the EU and the 47 member States of the Council of Europe, more than ever call for a co-ordinated and meaningful action of the two organisations, and we will continue to work together closely”.
