PACE has called on Europe’s governments to open all positions in the armed forces to women – and to show “zero tolerance” to gender-based violence in the military.
Approving a resolution today based on a report by Maryvonne Blondin (France, SOC), the Assembly spelled out a series of steps to ensure more flexible career opportunities for women in the armed forces and to “change mentalities” to promote gender equality.
Among other things, equipment and uniforms should be suitable for women’s bodies and living quarters adapted for accommodating both men and women, the parliamentarians said.
