Seminar in Rabat on the theme 'Migration and climate change: what relationship?'

As part of the project “Support for the development of the role of Parliament in the consolidation of democracy in Morocco 2020-2024”, financed by the European Union and implemented by the Council of Europe, the Parliament of the Kingdom of Morocco and PACE today organised a seminar to close their co-operation project on the theme “Migration and climate change: what relationship?”.

The opening session was co-chaired by Rachid Talbi El Alami, President of the House of Representatives; Enaam Mayara, President of the House of Councillors; Theodoros Rousopoulos, President of PACE; and Patricia Llombart Cussac, Ambassador of the European Union to Morocco.

Also taking part in the seminar were members of PACE's Committee on Migration, Refugees and Displaced Persons and the Committee on Social Affairs, Health and Sustainable Development, as well as representatives of the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, and both Houses of the Moroccan Parliament.

Discussions focused in particular on the link between migration and sustainable development, as well as the integration of migrants and the preservation of skills and talents. The speeches provided an insight into the scale of the phenomenon in Morocco and Europe, and provided food for thought on how to respond to the current and future challenges posed by climate change. Morocco's experience and the Assembly's position on integration policies and the role of migrant and refugee women in promoting the integration of migrants were shared.
