The Assembly,
1. Having regard to the report of its Committee on Regional Planning and Local Authorities on long-range transboundary air pollution (
Doc. 4368) ;
2. Recalling Resolutions (68) 4 and (70) 12 of the Committee of Ministers, on the Declaration of Principles on Air Pollution Control and on the control of sulphur dioxide emissions into the air ;
3. Further recalling that the Final Act of the Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe describes control of air pollution, including long-range transport of air pollutants, as one of the fields of co-operation between European states ;
4. Noting OECD's activities in the field of long-range transfrontier air pollution, and recommendations of the OECD Council on transfrontier pollution ;
5. Taking into account the draft Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution adopted by the UN Economic Commission for Europe at its 34th Session,
6. Instructs its Committee on Regional Planning and Local Authorities, in consultation with other committees concerned, to keep the study of the problem of long-range transboundary air pollution on its agenda.
