The Assembly,
Having learnt from UNESCO'sThird Report to the Consultative Assembly of the Council of Europe (paragraph46) that the Executive Board of UNESCO has decided to maintain the subsidy tothe Institute for Social Sciences at Cologne and has urged that Institute toco-operate closely with other appropriate bodies in Europe;
Believing that the maintenance of this international Institute is ofindisputable importance for the development of social sciences in the Europeancountries;
Considering that the Council of Europe might make gooduse of this Institute's studies in planning its own work, on the understandingthat it takes an active part in the orientation and, if need be, the financingof those studies,
Recommends that the Committee of Ministersinstruct the Secretary-General to examine in consultation with UNESCO thepossibility of a fruitful association of the Council of Europe with the work ofthe UNESCO Institute for Social Sciences at Cologne.
