Respect for social rights in Greece

Written question No. 640 to the Committee of Ministers | Doc. 13248 | 25 June 2013

Signatories:
Ms Liliane MAURY PASQUIER, Switzerland, SOC

In each of the eight collective complaints that have been lodged against Greece since 2011, the European Committee of Social Rights held that there had been a violation of the rights enshrined in the European Social Charter. These complaints concerned legislation imposing a reduction of pensions primarily in the public sector (collective complaints Nos. 76/2012, 77/2012, 78/2012, 79/2012, and 80/2012) and the measures relating to remuneration and working conditions contained in Law No. 3863 of 15 July 2010 (collective complaints Nos. 65/2011 and 66/2011).

In a written question dated 12 March 2013, my colleague, Mr Hunko, requested information on the action taken in response to the decisions concerning collective complaints Nos. 65/2011 and 66/2011. The reply from the Committee of Ministers emphasised the temporary nature of the measures in question, in accordance with the information supplied by the Greek Government.

Nevertheless, the Greek delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly has just pointed out to me that new laws have just been enacted in Greece, further exacerbating the measures which were found to be a violation of the European Social Charter.

Ms Liliane Maury Pasquier,

To ask the Committee of Ministers,

Whether it has been informed of the developments concerning these new laws?

In view of its resolution calling on Greece to revoke the measures in question as soon as possible, what steps does the Committee of Ministers intend to take with regard to the new laws at issue?
