Written question No. 758 to the Committee of Ministers | Doc. 15238 | 11 March 2021

Mr Ziya ALTUNYALDIZ, Turkey, NR

On 9 March 2012, the Parliamentary Assembly adopted Resolution 1867 (2012) on “The situation of the Greek citizens of Turkish descent in Rhodes and Kos. In stark contradiction to its Council of Europe obligations as noted in the report and other relevant international legal instruments, Greece has been continuing its policy of not recognising the rights of the Turkish community in the Dodecanese, mainly based in Rhodes and Kos. The Greek authorities continue their discriminatory and oppressive practices in a systematic manner, particularly in terms of dissolving the religious foundations belonging to the Turkish minority.

Mr Altunyaldız

To ask the Committee of Ministers:

What measures does the Committee of Ministers intend to take towards Greece to stop its violations of the rights of the Turkish minority, particularly in terms of their access to Turkish language education, proper administration of religious foundations and religious worship in Rhodes and Kos and, in this context, will the Committee of Ministers call on the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance to monitor the ongoing discriminatory and oppressive practices targeting the Turkish minority in Greece in the framework of its next monitoring cycle?
