The Assembly,
Having been informed of the work of O.E.E.C. and the European Productivity Agency;
Noting
that the agricultural economies of the Mediterranean countries are closely bound up with one another owing to their structure, the climate and the nature of the soil;
that their agricultural production is frequently unbalanced or badly planned and results in a poor standard of living in the densely populated areas;
that changes in farming methods would in a short time have most beneficial effects, as experiments have shown, on the economic development of these areas;
Considering that the development and harmonisation of methods of agricultural instruction in the Mediterranean countries is the only way to guide agricultural production in a favourable direction in these areas,
Recommends that the Committee of Ministers take steps to set up, under the auspices of the Council of Europe and with the help of the European Productivity Agency, a Medi-terranean instruction centre for the further training of agronomists in the countries concerned.
