Social implications of the Free Trade Area

Order 114 (1957)

Author(s):
Parliamentary Assembly
Origin
28th Sitting

The Assembly,

Considering that the abolition of obstacles to trade, envisaged in the proposal for a Free Trade Area, is closely bound up with the removal of distortions arising from disparities in social legislation and with the abolition of obstacles to the free movement of individuals ;

Instructs the Social Committee :

  • to consider the social implications involved in the proposal for a Free Trade Area ; and
  • to put forward constructive solutions so that the establishment of such an area may, to the utmost possible extent, lead to a harmonization of social charges, facilitate the liberation of services, improve stability of employment and contribute to a rise in the standard of living of working folk.
