The Assembly,
1. Having taken note of Resolutions 43 and 44 adopted by the European Conference of Local Authorities during its 5th Session ;
2. Gratified to see the extent to which, in drawing up these Resolutions, the Conference has drawn upon the studies carried out by the Council of Europe and, in particular, by the Cultural Committee and its Rapporteurs, MM. Eden and Weiss, in the field of the conservation of nature and the preservation of ancient buildings and historical or artistic sites ;
3. Persuaded that the said Resolutions give further proof of the value and efficacy of the close co-operation existing between the Conference and the Council of Europe ;
4. Observing that these Resolutions form part of a series of texts on regional planning which was the principal theme of the work of the Conference ;
5. Believing that regional planning can and should be one of the major concerns of the Council of Europe and deserves to be made the subject of specific studies which will provide welcome opportunities for collaboration between the Conference and the Council of Europe ;
6.Noting with satisfaction the way in which these texts bring out the human and cultural aspects of the problems involved ;
7.Trusting that this human and cultural factor is and will remain a subject of care not only to local, regional and national authorities but also to the professional circles called on to advise these authorities ;
8.Taking good note of the wish expressed by the Conference that the lead given by the Assembly (Recommendation 365 and Resolution 269) with regard to holding a European Conference on the preservation and development of ancient buildings and historical or artistic sites should be actively followed up,
