The Assembly,
Considering that the meetingof the European Conference of Local Authorities held on 12th, 13th and 14thJanuary 1957 was in keeping with the principles and aims of the Council ofEurope ;
Noting with satisfaction that the initiative taken by theCouncil of Europe met with a most encouraging response from the representativesof the local authorities, as shown, in particular, by the large attendance atthe Conference ;
Having studied the work of the Conference andappreciated its remarkable quality ;
Considering that the resultsof the Conference make a most valuable contribution to the work of the Councilof Europe ;
Having regard to its Resolution 76 (1955) ;
Thanking the Committee of Ministers for having made it possible for theConference to meet ;
Endorsing the views expressed by theConference in its Opinions Nos. 4 and 5 on the participation of localauthorities in European institutions,
Recommends that theCommittee of Ministers should :
