The Standing Committee,

Having seenRecommendations 106 (1956) and 114 (1957), referring to Hungarian refugees,

Recommends that the Committee of Ministers should :

1 Strongly support the second joint appealmade by the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the United Nations HighCommissioner for Refugees for further contributions, and urge Governments,Members of the Council of Europe, generously to respond to this appeal;
2 Invite Member Governments :
a to take into consideration, within the framework of the assistancethey are ready to give to Hungarian refugees,the problem of those refugees whoare in Yugoslavia;
b to make the necessary contacts with theUnited Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and with the IntergovernmentalCommittee for European Migration in order to facilitate the permanentresettlement of all of the Hungarian refugees who still are in Austria, inYugoslavia and in other European countries.
