The Assembly,
Having regard to Resolution 232 on the Italia Nostra difende Venesia Exhibition, in which its Cultural and Scientific Committee was instructed to study ways and means whereby the Council of Europe might assist Italia Nostra in its efforts to preserve the integrity of Venice;
Having examined the report of the Cultural Committee on the preservation and development of ancient buildings and historic or artistic sites (Doc. 1570);
Reaffirming that Venice is one of the birthplaces of European culture and that its safeguarding claims the support of the whole of Europe;
Considering that an architectural complex in Venice which is in particular danger should be restored, as a pilot project for restoration and development of a historic quarter, as proposed by the Italia Nostra Association with the support of the Italian Government;
Noting that such a pilot programme will involve a publication which will make the technical details of the undertaking available to interested circles in all member countries,
Recommends that the Committee of Ministers :
