The Assembly,
Having regard to Articles 1 and 2 (b) of the European Cultural Convention, which came into force on 5th May, 1955, and under the terms of which the Contracting Parties undertook to encourage their common cultural development and to endeavour to foster the study of European history and civilisation in their several territories;
Having regard to the necessity of disseminating the idea and knowledge of European co-operation in the universities, institutes of higher education, cultural circles and press of the Contracting Parties;
Having regard to the decision reached by the Committee of Cultural Experts at its tenth session, on 27th April, 1955, concerning the work Europe in the XIXth and XXth Centuries- Historical problems and interpretations, to be edited by an international editorial board, and published by Carlo Marzorati, Milan;
Noting with satisfaction the private initiative leading to the preparation of this work, which takes its inspiration from the ideas and aims of European co-operation and will be a useful and potent aid for scientific work and university teaching in Europe and throughout the world;
Wholeheartedly approving the aims of this work and the plans for publication presented by M. Marzorati,
Decides to lend its moral support to the work entitled Europe in the XIXth and XXth Centuries;
Invites the Governments of member countries to take the necessary steps to ensure wide circulation for this work, in particular by introducing it into libraries, universities and institutes of higher education.
