The Assembly,

1. Considering that public health problems of supranational scope lend themselves well to study in a European context ;
2. Considering that these problems, while technical in nature, necessitate a political decision ;
3. Considering that co-ordination is highly desirable in the field of health legislation ;
4. Considering that Members of Parliament who are asked to take legislative decisions at national and possibly at European level would find it useful to do so in the light of national points of view and expert technical opinions,
5. Considers that a symposium should be convened in Berlin in the spring of 1966, to be attended by a small delegation from each country of Members of Parliament particularly interested in public health questions, the subjects for discussion being :
public health problems arising from the free circulation of manpower ;
food protection ;
6. Instructs the President to send to the Presidents of national Parliaments a letter informing them of this decision and asking them to appoint members of their own Parliaments who have specialist knowledge of public health matters ;
7. Instructs the Secretary General to address a letter to the Members of the Committee of Ministers asking them to send a Governmental public health expert to represent them at this Symposium ;
8. Appoints an Organising Committee composed of :
the Chairman of the Social Committee,
the Chairman of the Sub-Committee on Public Health,
the Rapporteur,
two consulting experts,
two representatives of the Secretary General, and asks that Committee to make all necessary arrangements for the Symposium in accordance with the report of the Social Committee (Doc. 1967).
