The Assembly,
1. Recalling the suggestions in the report on peace research (
Doc. 2187) ;
2. Having been informed of the conclusions of the report drawn up by the International Peace Research Association (IPRA) as requested by the Political Committee on 23 January 1967 ;
3. Considering that a scientific enquiry into the prospects of intra-European co-operation on the instigation of the Assembly of the Council of Europe may reveal new possibilities to that organisation and to European non-member states,
4. Agrees to invite the IPRA to convene, if possible before the end of 1968, a symposium of politicians and experts from Eastern and Western countries on the subject "Intra-European Co-operation" ;
5. Leaves it to the discretion of the President of the Sub-Committee No. 6 (Peace Research) of the Political Committee to contact the Secretary General of IPRA if he thinks it opportune ;
6. Resolves also to instruct the Political Committee's Sub-Committee No. 6 (Peace Research) to appoint a liaison group with the IPRA from among its members ;
7. Expresses the wish that the report drawn up by the IPRA shall be used as one of the main working papers for the symposium ;
8. Resolves finally to instruct the Political Committee to report back to it on the results of the symposium and the prospects it opens up.
