The Assembly,

1. Recalling its Resolution 312 (1966) on the co-ordination of research concerning the legal systems of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe ;
2. Considering the success of the first symposium on the question which was organised under its auspices at Strasbourg on 2 and 3 October 1967 ;
3. Recalling its Order No. 269 (1968) instructing the Legal Affairs Committee to lend its assistance in arranging a second symposium in the near future and to report progress to the Assembly ;
4. Welcoming the wish expressed by participants at the 1967 Symposium that a second symposium be held in 1970 or 1971,
5. Decides :
a to organise in the near future a second symposium on the legal systems of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, to which will be invited the directors of institutes, associations and law faculties in Council of Europe member states carrying out research in that field, in order to enable them to resume the discussion in the light of the results of the 1967 Symposium and of subsequent research work, and to pursue their exchanges of views, information and documentary material with a view to co-ordinating current research ;
b to instruct the Legal Affairs Committee to make the necessary arrangements to hold such a symposium and to report on its results ;
c to request the Secretary General to assist the Assembly in giving effect to this resolution.
