Organisation of a second Symposium of members of Parliament Specialists in Public Health

The Assembly,
1. Recalling its
Recommendation 467, of 29 September 1966, on the first Symposium of Members of Parliament Specialists in Public Health, held from 10 to 13 May 1966 in Berlin, and Order No. 250, also of 29 September 1966, instructing its Committee on Social and Health Questions to make arrangements for a second Symposium to discuss questions of current interest in the public health sphere in Europe ;
2. Considering that public health problems are supranational in scope, and that members of parliament who are asked to take legislative decisions at national and European level should be in a position to consider these in the light of expert technical advice ;
3. Recalling its
Recommendation 562, of 30 September 1969, on the administration of environmental health systems,
4. Considers that a second Symposium of Members of Parliament Specialists in Public Health should be convened from 1 to 4 July 1971 in Stockholm, the subjects for discussion being :
Standards of food hygiène,
Standards of housing,
Waste disposal and pollution,
Environmental health administration ;
5. Instructs the President to send to the presiding officers of parliaments of the Council of Europe member States, which are represented at the Consultative Assembly, a letter informing them of this decision and asking them to appoint members of their own parliaments who have specialist knowledge of public health matters to attend the Symposium ;
6. Instructs the Secretary General :
a to address a letter to the members of the Committee of Ministers asking them to send a governmental public health expert to represent them at the Symposium ;
b to assist the Assembly in giving effect to this resolution ;
7. Instructs its Committee on Social and Health Questions to make all necessary arrangements for the Symposium, and to report on its results.
