The Assembly,
1. Having regard to Article 1.c of the Statute of the Council of Europe, and to the spirit of Committee of Ministers Resolution (74) 4 on the future role of the Council of Europe ;
2. Appreciating the value of exchanges of views by the Committee of Ministers and its subordinate bodies on subjects of mutual interest dealt with in the United Nations and at other international conferences ;
3. Believing that the Council of Europe has an important part to play vis-a-vis UNESCO ;
5. Noting the provisional agenda for the 20th session of the UNESCO General Conference and the report of the Assembly Committee on Culture and Education on co-operation with UNESCO (
Doc. 4228),
6. Calls upon its members to take an active part, and in the most appropriate way, in the next session of the UNESCO General Conference ;
7. Hopes to see a prior co-ordination of the position of Council of Europe member states in all cases where their experience can make a particularly effective contribution to UNESCO, using such procedures as those that the Committee of Ministers has adopted for discussing the follow-up to CSCE and for considering agendas for future sessions of the United Nations General Assembly.
