1. The Assembly discussed the trade embargo imposed by Greece on the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.
2. The Assembly strongly disapproves of the measures taken by the Greek Government which could have a destabilising effect in a region particularly vulnerable at this time.
3. It also expresses its support for the request addressed by the Commission of the European Communities to the Greek Government that this trade embargo, which could violate the regulations of the European Union, be lifted as soon as possible.
4. The Assembly invites both Greece and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, whose parliament enjoys special guest status with the Parliamentary Assembly, to show signs of good will in order to resolve their differences in a peaceful and constructive manner.
5. The Assembly invites the Chairman-in-Office of the Committee of Ministers, the President of the Assembly and the Secretary General of the Council of Europe to take concrete initiatives to bring the parties concerned together to find a definitive solution.
