1. Meeting in accordance with the provisions of Rule 6 of the Rules of Procedure, the Committee appointed for the verification of credentials examined the credentials of the new Representatives and Substitutes to the Consultative Assembly of the Council of Europe, appointed as a result of General Elections or of some other internal event occurring in their country since the first part of the Session.
2. The following Members : Denmark, France, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, for this reason, presented new credentials, attested by their respective Ministers for Foreign Affairs.
In the case of Denmark, M. Haekke-rup has been appointed Substitute in place of M. Hansen, who has resigned. M. Argyropou-los has been appointed as the new Greek Substitute in place of M. Arvanitakis. The Netherlands have appointed M. Kapteijn as Representative in succession to M. van der Kieft, who has assumed Ministerial duties.
In the case of Italy, it has been necessary to appoint two new Representatives following the death of M. Jacini, Vice-President of the Assembly, and the resignation of M. Giac-chero, now a member of the High Authority of the European Coal and Steel Community. M. Santero, hitherto a Substitute, has succeeded M. Jacini as Representative, but the seat left vacant by the departure of M. Giacchero has not been filled. The number of seats held by the Italian delegation is thereby reduced to 17, and the number of seats in the Assembly is reduced from the statutory 132 to 131.
France has appointed its six Representatives and six Substitutes from the Council of the Republic, following partial elections to that body.
Finally, the United Kingdom, which for the first part of the Session had appointed nine Substitutes, has appointed six additional Substitutes to attend the second part of the Session.
As no objections have been raised, the Committee unanimously submits the following names of new Representatives and Substitutes for the approval of the Assembly :
