Written Question No. 572 by Mr Minashvili (Doc. 12001)

What concrete actions the Committee of Ministers has taken to address the consequences of the August 2008 war between the Russian Federation and Georgia and what further steps need to be taken in the Committee of Ministers view in order to promote the Council of Europe values and standards in the Russian Federation and Georgia?

Reply by the Committee of Ministers
1. The Committee of Ministers draws the honourable member’s attention to its replies to Parliamentary Assembly Recommendations 1846 (2008) on “The consequences of the war between Georgia and Russia”, 1857 (2009) on “The humanitarian consequences of the war between Georgia and Russia” and 1869 (2009) on “The humanitarian consequences of the war between Georgia and Russia: follow-up given to Resolution 1648 (2009)”, in which it described the measures taken to deal with the conflict of August 2008.
2. The Committee is still keeping a particularly close track of this matter. It recently asked the Secretary General to prepare a consolidated report on the conflict in Georgia. On the basis of this report, the Committee of Ministers will examine what further steps may be required.
