The Assembly,

1. Having regard to its Resolution 721 (1980) on data processing and the protection of human rights ;
2. Convinced that the pace of technological development in data processing and telecommunications should be matched by effective national and international legislation to protect the rights and interests of citizens, and in particular the right to privacy in accordance with Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights,
3. Instructs its Legal Affairs Committee and its Committee on Science and Technology to examine the protection of individual rights in the light of data processing developments, and to report to it on this matter in due time, each in the field of its respective responsibilities
