Across Europe, disinformation and false narratives about the Istanbul Convention are gaining ground, fuelling political contestation and threatening progress in preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence. These attacks weaken legislative action, jeopardise protection for victims and erode trust in international human rights standards.
The conference will bring together parliamentarians, national and international bodies and civil society actors to promote the Istanbul Convention, exchange good parliamentary practices in support of the Convention's implementation and strengthen solidarity among parliamentarians committed to advancing women's rights.
Held in Madrid, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Equality, the event aims to renew momentum in defence of the Istanbul Convention across the Council of Europe's member States.
The conference is organised by the Parliamentary Network Women Free from Violence of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), which is co-ordinated by its General Rapporteur on violence against women - Ms Luz Martínez Seijo - in partnership with the Spanish Ministry of Equality.
