2026 - Third part-session

Summary

The Parliamentary Assembly's Resolution 2668 highlights the crucial importance of women's access to justice as a fundamental human right and a key element in achieving gender equality in democratic societies. Despite efforts to ensure formal equality, women continue to face multiple barriers, including economic and social inequalities, gender stereotypes, and discriminatory practices, which particularly affect certain groups of women such as LBTI women, migrant women, and women with disabilities. The resolution calls for the implementation of strategies to remove these barriers, improve legal recognition of gender-related discrimination, and enhance the capacity of justice systems to respond effectively to the needs of women and girls, especially victims of gender-based violence. It emphasises the need for gender-sensitive training for legal professionals, adequate funding for justice facilities, and better data collection to monitor progress. The resolution also stresses the importance of ratifying the Istanbul Convention and implementing victim-centred procedures to prevent secondary victimisation and ensure justice for all women and girls.
