The Consultative Assembly of the Council of Europe,
considering that a closer co-ordination of European communications would contribute not only to a more rational utilisation, as much for peaceful as for military ends, of the resources and industrial potential of Europe, but also to the rapprochement of tho peoples of the various Member States,
taking into account, moreover, the fact that other international organisations are studying this problem and that there are a variety of possible solutions existing,
approving the broad outlines of the proposal to invite the Council of Europe to take the initiative in establishing a European Transport Organisation,
instructs the Secretary-General to consider, in consultation with the appropriate international organisations, either the possibility of setting up, under an appropriate democratic control, a European high authority for transport, or any other measures likely to ensure the necessary co-ordination,, and to present at the next meeting of the Sub-Committee on Communications and Public Works a Report on the results of this work,
recommends that the Committee of Ministers should put at the disposal of the Economic Committee, Governmental Experts to consider this problem in conjunction with the Sub-Committee on Communications and Public Works, operating under the auspices of the Secretary-General,
instructs the Committee on Economic Questions to follow the development of the work advocated above and to make a report on it at its next Sitting.
