The Assembly,

1. Believing that the results of the Summit Conference of the Nine make a definition of the future role of the Council of Europe urgent and necessary ;
2. Expressing its firm belief that the Council of Europe is fulfilling and will continue to fulfil an important role with its political assembly, the widest in Europe, as a parliamentary forum comprising all Members of the enlarged Community and many other democratic States in Europe,
3. Recommends that the Committee of Ministers :
3.1 invite member governments to undertake studies, if they have not already done so, of the future role they foresee for the Council of Europe in the light of the results of the Paris Summit Conference and to inform them of their conclusions if possible at the ministerial meeting in December 1972 ;
3.2 discuss with the Assembly their views on the future of the Council of Europe on the occasion of the Colloquy in December 1972 ;
3.3 reach a joint decision, defining the future role and tasks of the Organisation, at the latest on the occasion of the ministerial meeting in May 1973.
