The Assembly,

1. Having regard to the resolution on the designation of 1985 as European Music Year, adopted on 20 November 1980 by the European Parliament ;

2. Welcoming the invitation for the Council of Europe, and in particular its Committee on Culture and Education, to be closely associated with the organisation of this year ;

3. Believing that such an event should be related to the Council of Europe's work on cultural development and should allow the involvement of young people ;

4. Considering that, on the basis of past experience, it is necessary to begin preparations well in advance.

5. Recommends that the Committee of Ministers :

a give its official support to the designation of 1985 as European Music Year ;

b examine subsequently, and in co-operation with the Assembly, the arrangements to be made.
