On 6 September 2015, thousands of people took part in the antigovernmental protest rallies in Chisinau downtown.
During one of the rallies held in front of the Prosecutor General’s Office the leader of one of the opposition parties, Grigore Petrenco and seven other activists were arrested.
The opposition activists who took part in the peaceful protest rally are charged with organising "mass disorders" and risk to get up to eight years in prison. This is an evident violation of human rights and clear intimidation of the opposition and its activists.
Mr Kox,
To ask the Committee of Ministers,
To which extend does this political persecution of the opposition in the Republic of Moldova correspond to the commitments assumed by this member State when joining the Council of Europe?
