The Assembly,

Considering the need t o provide immediate and effective financial aid to any European municipality overtaken by a natural disaster, such as recently befell hundreds of Netherlands, British, Belgian and Turkish municipalities.

Bearing in mind the importance to the cause of European unity of demonstrating to the peoples of Member States the close ties which link all the local government administrations of Europe.

Decides to include in its Agenda the following question :

" Establishment of a European Fund for Inter-Municipal Assistance among the local government administrations of Member States and under the auspices of the Council of Europe for the provision of immediate and effective financial aid to any European municipality overtaken by disaster

and instructs its Special Committee on Municipal and Regional Affairs to examine the problem and report thereon to the Assembly.
