A five-member delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), led by Piero Fassino (Italy, SOC), will make a pre-electoral visit to Serbia on 12-13 October to assess the election campaign and political climate prior to the early parliamentary elections on 25 October.

In Belgrade, the delegation will meet the Speaker of the National Assembly and acting President of the Republic, the Serbian delegation to PACE as well as representatives of the Ministry of the Interior and the institutions responsible for elections.

Meetings are also scheduled with the Head and members of the OSCE/ODIHR Election Observation Mission, representatives of the main parliamentary and extra-parliamentary parties and coalitions – from both the majority and the opposition – participating in the elections, as well as representatives of the national minority parties in the Assembly. In addition, the delegation will meet the Chairperson and members of the Republic Electoral Commission, as well as representatives of the diplomatic community, civil society and the media.

The delegation is due to issue a statement at the end of the visit. A full delegation of 20 members will travel to Serbia to observe the elections on 25 October, as part of an International Election Observation Mission.
