"The stigmatisation of transgender persons in political discourse, holding them responsible for many ills, is not only discriminatory but also contributes to an increase in transphobia and transphobic violence around the world. Honouring the memory of transgender victims of transphobic crimes is a necessity, and we must do more to protect them," said the General Rapporteur on the Rights of LGBTI Persons, Béatrice Fresko-Rolfo (Monaco, ALDE), on the eve of Transgender Day of Remembrance (20 November 2025).

“In recent years, attacks on the rights of transgender persons have been on the rise across Europe. I would like to reiterate that the rights of transgender persons are human rights and that their protection must be ensured,” she added.

“I am counting on parliamentarians to raise their voice to denounce transphobia and transphobic violence. Questioning the presence of transgender persons in our societies is an attack on human rights in general. We have the responsibility to intensify our efforts to help build a more inclusive society where everyone has a place,” she concluded.
