PACE: Exchanges of views on the disappearance of newborn babies and child and teenage suicide in Europe

Strasbourg, 18.09.2007 – The Social, Health and Family Affairs Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) is organising two exchanges of views on the disappearance of newborn babies and child and teenage suicide on 20 September in Paris.

With an eye to a new report by Ruth-Gaby Vermot-Mangold (Switzerland, SOC) on the disappearance of newborn babies for illegal adoption in Europe, the participants will be hearing from David Olivier Kaminski, a lawyer who appeared in the case of alleged trafficking in Bulgarian babies in France, and Alina Radu, a Moldovan journalist who will report on her experience of the problem in her country.  The agenda will also include an examination of the draft report on the abandonment of children at birth (Michael Hancock, United Kingdom, SOC).

The second exchange of views, on child and teenage suicide in Europe (Rapporteur Bernard Marquet, Monaco, ALDE), will be attended by a range of European experts.

The meeting is open to the press.

Date and venue: Thursday 20 September 2007, Paris, Council of Europe Office, 55 avenue Kléber, Paris 16ème (Boissière metro station).
Time: From 9.30 am to 1 pm and 2.30 to 5 pm.
