28/09/2009 Session
Strasbourg, 28.09.2009 – What strategies are currently being implemented in Europe and the United States to support green business? Are new environmentally-friendly technologies and solutions emerging on both continents? What policies have governments already introduced to foster green growth? All of these issues will be explored at a debate to be held jointly by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) and the Alsace Regional Council, on Tuesday 29 September 2009, from 8 to 9.30 p.m.*
This debate, to be opened by PACE President Lluís Maria de Puig and the President of the Alsace Regional Council André Reichardt, will be attended by the PACE Vice-President and former Deputy Prime Minister under Tony Blair, John Prescott (United Kingdom, SOC), the Chairperson of the French delegation to PACE Jean-Claude Mignon (France, PPE/DC), President Clinton’s adviser on the environment Kathleen McGinty, and the Consul General of the United States in Strasbourg Vincent Carver. PACE members, local councillors, experts on the environment and the green economy, and businessmen and women will also contribute to the debate. Vladimir Vasak, a journalist from ARTE, will lead the discussion.
To precede the debate, at 6 p.m., the film “The 11th Hour”, produced by Leonardo Di Caprio will be shown in the building’s amphitheatre. This documentary highlights the consequences of global warming and presents ideas on how to restore the planet’s ecosystems.
