PACE hearing on access by women to decision-making bodies

Strasbourg, 08.09.2010 – Why are there so few women in economic and social decision-making bodies?  This question will be the subject of a hearing held in Paris on Friday 10 September by the Committee on Equal Opportunities for Women and Men of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) as part of the preparation of the report by Gisèle Gautier (France, EPP/CD) on this issue.

During the hearing, participants will take stock of the situation in Europe, particularly where implementation of quota systems is concerned, and pinpoint strategies to promote equitable participation by women in decision-making processes.

The participants will include Ms Béatrice Castellane, a lawyer practising in Paris, Veronica Nilsson, who is responsible for Gender Equality at the European Trade Union Confederation, and Leena Linnainmaa, Director of the Finnish Central Chamber of Commerce.
