Strasbourg, 15.03.2011 – What parliamentarians can do to update Europe’s laws and agreements relating to water, waterways and water management will be the focus of a major conference bringing together European parliamentarians and water experts in Monaco on 22 March 2011.
The conference, organised by the Sub-Committee on Sustainable Development of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) to mark the UN’s “World Water Day”, will cover regional agreements to tackle pollution and conserve water in the Mediterranean, Danube basin, Black Sea and Baltic, as well as the management of seas, rivers, reservoirs and aquifers which straddle national frontiers.
The conference will be opened by Monaco’s Minister of State Michel Roger, and there will be a closing message from His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco.
The conference will also constitute the launch of the parliamentary process, contributing to the 6th World Water Forum in Marseille in March 2012.
