30/12/2011 President
PACE President welcomed the agreement between the leaders of key political parties of Bosnia and Herzegovina about the formation of a new government, which came after more than a year of tense and dificult negotiations. "During my recent meetings with the leaders of all political parties, I felt that an agreement was close to being concluded; therefore, I stressed that the formation of a new government was the first priority among a set of concrete measures the authorities should take in order to end the ongoing political and institutional deadlock", he added.
"The compromise on the formation of a new government is an essential precondition for putting the functioning of BiH's institutions back on a normal track", he stressed. "It is now time to take further concrete steps in order to catch up with the implementation of the country's obligations and commitments to the Council of Europe, namely, the implementation of the Sejdic and Finci Judgment of the Strasbourg court and the speeding up of much needed reforms in the field of judiciary, the fight against corruption, eduction, etc", he added.
At the same time, PACE President encouraged the new government and parliament to urgently adopt EU-integration-related laws, in order to catch up with the neighbours in the process of EU integration. "Bosnia and Herzegovina's European perspective belongs to the people of this country who have to take themselves concrete steps in order to fulfil it", PACE President added.
