How can young people contribute to the development of more democratic societies?

Strasbourg, 17.09.2012 – What challenges are young people facing in a democracy ? How can they contribute to the development of more democratic and more inclusive societies in Europe? These topics will be debated by PACE members and around 170 young people – from member states, observer states and states whose parliaments are partners for democracy to PACE – on the occasion of the Youth Assembly 2012, organised by PACE in co-operation with the European Youth Foundation and the Youth sector of the Council of Europe.

The Youth Assembly, which is organised in the framework of the World Forum for Democracy (Strasbourg, 5-11 October 2012), will take place from 5 to 7 October. It will be opened by Jean-Claude Mignon, PACE President, Thorbjørn Jagland, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, and Maria Paschou, Chairperson of the Advisory Council on Youth of the Council of Europe.

The working groups will discuss the links between democracy and new social media, access to social rights, youth participation, migration and citizenship education.

From 8 to 11 October, 40 young representatives of the Youth Assembly will present its work and recommendations to the World Forum for Democracy.
