Strasbourg, 07.02.2013 – “Education and cultural policies must be enhanced in order to develop a culture of democracy that can sustain the ‘living together’ society,” said Carlos Costa Neves (Portugal, PPE/DC) in Andorra la Vella, addressing the international conference “Competences for a culture of democracy and intercultural dialogue: a political challenge and values”.
“We should go beyond the general consensus about the need for intercultural dialogue and education for democratic citizenship”, he added. “We have to discuss the specific competences that will give people the foundation, on which they will build their relations with the other members of society, from next door neighbour to anyone else in Europe and beyond”.
