Liliane Maury Pasquier welcomes the adoption of the Convention against Trafficking in Human Organs

“The adoption of the Council of Europe Convention against Trafficking in Human Organs this week is an excellent news,” Liliane Maury Pasquier (Switzerland, SOC), Chairperson of the Sub-Committee on Public Health of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), declared today.

Emphasising the importance of combatting this worldwide phenomenon which contravenes the most basic standards in terms of human rights and human dignity, Ms Maury Pasquier invited the Committee of Ministers to open the convention for signature as quickly as possible.

Referring to PACE Opinion 286 (2013) on the draft convention Ms Maury Pasquier regretted, however, that none of the recommendations made by the Assembly with a view to strengthening the text’s scope and effectiveness has been taken on board by the Committee of Ministers.
