25/11/2016 Standing Committee
Expressing concern over inequalities across Europe in the availability and accessibility of health care services for children, the PACE Standing Committee, meeting in Nicosia today, has called on the member States to ensure “adequate funding to develop health care systems to be provided to all children in an equitable manner across every country”, covering prevention, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, palliative care, health emergencies and chronic diseases affecting physical and mental health.
The parliamentarians believe that special support should be provided to the most vulnerable groups of children such as migrant and refugee children, those affected by armed conflicts, children of ethnic minorities, disabled children or children in remote rural areas.
The resolution adopted unanimously today, on the basis of a report prepared by Stella Kyriakides (Cyprus, EPP/CD), also proposes considering the fundamental social determinants of health – such as poverty, income inequalities and education levels – and improving data collection in the health field.
