29/01/2020 Session
The Assembly today reaffirmed that member States “had an obligation to ensure non-discrimination in the workplace including on the grounds of religion or belief”. It called on States to take legislative measures so that “employees can lodge claims that their right to non-discrimination on the grounds of religion or belief has been breached”, and to establish mechanisms to deal with claims. According to the parliamentarians, ensuring the non-discrimination of employees on grounds of their religion or belief is “of crucial importance”.
Adopting a resolution, based on the report by Davor Ivo Stier (Croatia, EPP/CD), PACE called on member States to “promote a culture of tolerance and ‘living together’ in a religiously pluralist society”, while ensuring that “the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion is respected”.
The draft recommendation was not adopted by the Assembly.
