COVID-19 / Missing Children’s Day: missing migrant children need our help

“Today on the occasion of International Missing Children’s Day, I would like to call special attention to the problem of missing refugee and migrant children in Europe,” said Serap Yaşar (Turkey, NR), PACE’s rapporteur on “Missing refugee and migrant children in Europe.

“The pandemic situation does not stop migrant children from going missing, as their main motivation for migrating alone is to reunite with family members in other countries. Lockdown measures and delays in formal family reunion procedures may push even more children to abscond from shelters, which puts them at greater risk of going missing,” she said.

“I fully support today’s appeal by Missing Children Europe to European governments to support hotline services for children and to enforce cross-border co-operation in investigating the cases of missing migrant children.”
