Meeting today in Prague, the Selection Panel of the Václav Havel Human Rights Prize paid tribute to its member Marie-Louise Bemelmans-Videc who passed away a few days ago:
"It is with great sadness and emotion that the Selection Panel learned, the day before the meeting, of the sudden passing of its long-standing member, Marie-Louise Bemelmans-Videc.
Not only has she been a long-standing, knowledgeable and reliable member of the Selection Panel, but she also served for many years as a member of the Parliamentary Assembly, where she was an active member, always serving with strong conviction and commitment the cause of the human rights, democracy and the Rule of law.
She was sorely missed and the Panel’s deliberations, meeting in Prague today, were sadly marked by her absence.
The members of the Selection Panel of the Václav Havel Human Rights Prize express their sincere condolences to her family and friends."
