I will be brief. You were right to emphasise that the Council of Europe is faced with the serious political problem of the Russian Federation’s membership. It is a sensitive and vexed issue. We are all aware that, if the Russian Federation were to leave the Council of Europe, it would change the very nature and identity of the Organisation. Finland has had complex relations with the Russian Federation. How does the Finnish chairmanship see the issue and how can it help?

Lei ha giustamente sottolineato come il problema politico serio che riguarda il nostro Consiglio d'Europa è la presenza della Russia che, diciamo, rappresenta un vero dossier delicato e critico. Tutti abbiamo consapevolezza che se la Russia dovesse uscire dal Consiglio d'Europa, questo cambierebbe la natura e l'identità del Consiglio d'Europa. La Finlandia è un paese che storicamente ha con la Russia una complessità di relazioni. Come pensa che la Presidenza finlandese possa aiutarci?
