Reply to the Report of the Common Assembly of the E.C.S.C.

Resolution 65 (1954)

Author(s):
Parliamentary Assembly
Origin
This Resolution was adopted by the Assembly at its 34th Sitting, on 10th December, 1954 (see Doc. 324, Draft Resolution of the Committee on General Affairs).
1. The Assembly has noted with the keenest interest the Report transmitted to it by the Common Assembly of the European Coal and Steel Community in pursuance of Article 2 of the Protocol to the Treaty setting up the Community. It regards the communication of this Report as a fresh step in the establishment of intimate relations between the two Assemblies, and as being of a nature to permit of harmony of action.
2. The Assembly particularly appreciates the wide range of information provided by the Report and its clear analysis of the development of the various institutions of the Community. It wishes to stress the importance of this document for a fuller understanding of the activities of the Community and, in particular, of the part played within the Community by its Common Assembly.
3. The Assembly hopes at future Sessions to be in a position to carry out a careful examination of the Common Assembly's Annual Report and to transmit to that Assembly its detailed comments on the various matters dealt with therein. The Assembly regrets that in the case of the present Report such a study cannot be undertaken during the remainder of its Sixth Ordinary Session. It requests those of its Committees, however, which are instructed to follow the course of the Community's activities, to continue examination of the present Report, and, in particular, to take into account the information so provided in connection with their examination of the third Annual General Report of the High Authority.

The Assembly is anxious to be able, at future Sessions, to study the Annual Report of the Common Assembly in conjunction with that of the High Authority, and, accordingly, requests its Bureau to arrange with the Bureau of the Common Assembly the most convenient date for communication of this Report, having regard to the calendar of meetings of the respective Assemblies.
