At a conference organised in Brussels by the Council of Europe and the European Commission, Bernard Marquet (Monaco, ALDE), member of the Social, Health and Family Affairs Committee, today called on governments to support the principles of the future European Charter of Shared Social Responsibilities, and the innovation which can result from its application, in the interests of maintaining social cohesion.
“Social cohesion requires greater acknowledgement of the interdependence of the actions of the different players – policy makers, governments, companies, civil society – and of the impact of these actions. It is essential for everyone’s contribution to be properly recognised. The participation of other players, such as those experiencing poverty or the marginalised, is absolutely vital if Europe is to meet the needs of everyone”, said Mr Marquet.
