In their parliamentary contribution to the 6th World Water Forum, to be held in Marseille from 12 to 17 March 2012, PACE parliamentarians have called on public authorities across Europe and beyond to recognise the right of access to clean water and sanitation as a fundamental Human Right and to act with determination to translating this right into reality.
In a declaration by the PACE Committee on Social Affairs, Health and Sustainable Development, they also call upon the European Union authorities and the Council of Europe member States to commit themselves to facilitate the adoption of a principle of “solidarity financing” in the water and sanitation sector at the Forum. The parliamentarians further emphasised the need for coherent, holistic and fair management of water resources, including by mobilising parliaments and supporting a parliamentary network for water issues.
