1. The Assembly,
2. Deploring the regrettable events which have taken place on the territory of the Republic of Cyprus ;
3. Considering that the Council of Europe cannot remain indifferent to a dispute affecting several of its Members ;
4. Considering that a conference is about to open in London with the participation of delegates from Greece, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the Greek Cypriot community and the Turkish Cypriot community,
5. Condemns any recourse to violence ;
6. Expresses the hope that the London Conference will be able to re-establish peace and harmony among the interested parties and reach a fair solution of the dispute ;
7. Considers that it is desirable in present circumstances to wait until the end of the London Conference ;
8. Directs the Political Committee, in consultation with the President of the Assembly, to follow developments in the situation and, possibly, to consider sending to Cyprus a sub-committee with instructions to prepare a report for the Assembly on the situation and, so far as possible, to contribute to a solution.
